Before doing a final back-up of my November 2010 photos and videos and removing them from my laptop’s hard drive, I realized I had an unfinished project from my most recent trip to Hong Kong. I was in the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station on a Friday evening during rush hour and shot some video of the mass of humanity.
At the same time, I had just completed the third season of the Glenn Close TV show “Damages” and they have an interesting effect in the title sequence that I wanted to try to recreate: they show a crowded intersection in New York in fast-motion and then suddenly cut the clip to slow-motion. (If you want to see the original, a link to it is here. The shot I’m talking about lasts all of one second and takes place at about 0:08.)
As an homage to my inspiration, I “borrowed” the same title song, “When I Am Through With You” by The V.L.A. It is an energetic, guitar-driven song which I crudely edited to just over one minute. I hope you enjoy it.
I’ve been making an effort to post on a daily basis. Right now I have a backlog of several entries and am trying to work through them.

Seriously…I have a backlog of so many things too! I need to buy a new file to organize my receipts for 2011, organize all my 2010 financial stuff, and I need to replace my xanga header with “year of the golden rabbit”. Bunnies!!! :o) It’s gotta be a good year ahead of us!!!

What do you use to edit your videos? It also looks like no one (except for maybe one guy) seemed to notice you recording them. I’m guessing you’re very discreet. I should try to post daily. It seems to have slipped quite a bit the past year or so.
@ElusiveWords – I’m using iMovie. Previous used Microsoft’s in the box product (Windows Movie Maker or something like that) but it wasn’t on my latest work laptop and my camera records in MOV format so a Mac is just as easy to use. I was pretty inconspicuous except on the first pan, where I was more in the midst of the crowd. As for your frequency of posting, I’m certainly not going to add any pressure to your already busy life by telling you how much I miss the days of your more frequent posts. D’oh! Did you set up a tripod to shoot this footage? I’m just trying to imagine you doing that :-p.
When I first started I posted daily but then figured I will do it every other day –week and now when a bolt of lightening hits.

@bengozen – Well, we’ll see how long it lasts. Most months I get about 20-23 posts in. I don’t want to push to post daily just for the sake of posting. I know what you mean! I’m totally all about quality too, but the downside to that is that i dont post as often. trying to work on that!
@stepaside_loser – Perhaps it depends on country, but most free countries have the principle that when you are out in a public place, you do not have an expectation of privacy. So I can’t prevent someone from taking my picture while I’m walking through a subway station.@CurryPuffy – Turn around and head back, Gary!@Babyboomerjill – Do you think it is because only the young can survive that hustle and bustle or because Hong Kong is a young and vibrant place? I wonder… =D
