The other night, I had an odd dream. I was at a restaurant. While I couldn’t identify which restaurant it was, I somehow knew that it was my friend’s restaurant and he or she was short-staffed so I offered to help. In what felt like a several-hour shift, I ran around taking orders, serving food, and clearing tables – although since I have no prior experience working in a restaurant I kept making mistakes that caused trouble that exceeded the amount of help I provided.
If I’m not mistaken, the dream was near the end of my night’s sleep. When I awoke, I was exhausted as if I had been working all night long. Weird, huh?
You were sleep-working.
Hm… if I had a Freudian bent to my psych-speak, I would try and interpret your dream… as is, I will simply say that in my experience, it’s better to NOT try and figure out what dreams are… unless it seems like a divine revelation, it’s usually easier to just let it go!
MM – interesting – now lie back one the sofa and lets discuss how you feel about this.
One of my most recurring dreams is of me being a bus boy at my family’s old restaurant. I’m confused by that as well too.
When I have a memorable dream (good or bad) right before I wake up I usually find that it affects my mood that morning, even if it is subtle.
Lol, I often have dreams just before I wake up, and I wonder if it’s because I only dream after getting some decent rest, or if it’s because I dream all night, but I only remember the latest ones…
Feeling stressed lately?
Gee that sounds depressing – you’re not getting paid for all your hard work!I’ve had a similar dream where I was scrubbing the bathroom and I woke up exhausted and my bathroom was still dirty!
@stepaside_loser – you are always welcome to scrub my bathroom. And it better be clean afterwards!
Maybe you have taken on some new responsibilities at work?
I’ve had dreams like that before…usually right after starting a new job. Not the best way to spend the night!
@ElusiveWords – there is nothing more in the world i want than to scrub your bathroom, matt.
It seems like you have too much on your plate, Chris. You seem to be working hard. Rest and relax…. says the dream interpreter.! heh.
@Roadlesstaken – Still processing those painful memories of child labor? Ha ha…@Passionflwr86 – That makes sense…@yang1815 – It wouldn’t be the first time. I’ve frequently conducted training classes in my sleep.@sassyjessie – Oh, that’s very common for me, too. While I don’t dream much, or at least don’t seem to remember them, the ones I have close to when I wake up definitely carry over into my mood.@ZSA_MD – @feckyou_feckme – @ElusiveWords – @stepaside_loser – @everyday_yogi – In this case, I suspect I had the dream because we’ve been going to a friend’s restaurant (although it was not the restaurant in the dream) and the one challenge is the staff there seems a little uncoordinated. Tawn and I had discussed that they need to bring the staff up to the next level, so maybe in my dream I was trying to help out. Who knows@aPieceOfTheSky – I wonder about that, too. Do I dream all night or only before I wake?
@christao408 – That’s pretty nice. Gives a whole new meaning of making money while laying on your back! 😀
@yang1815 – According to Tawn, my training is absolutely incomprehensible when I’m asleep.
What a coincidence! I had a similar dream last night. In the dream a friend of mine asked me to work in his restaurant as a waiter. I did not accept his offer and said that I would want to be a writer. He said, “That’s fine. Give me a copy when you finish writing your book.”
@christao408 – Perhaps not to the gentleman back there dozing off.
@ClimbUpTreesToLookForFish – Interesting dream…
